The Learning Theory Of Cognitive Development In ELearning

The Learning Theory Of Cognitive Development In eLearning

There has been an ongoing debate amongst educators about the role of memory versus intelligence in fostering effective learning. It has long been held that learners are more successful in retaining new content if they consciously think about what’s being taught, as opposed to simply memorizing what they see on the slides or on a computer screen. The Learning Theory Of Cognitive Development: Principles And Applications In eLearning The learning theory of cognitive development plays a huge role in the case of the former approach—understanding by thinking. Because of its very nature, where time and distance often separate instructors and learners, the cognitive process plays an even more important role in eLearning. In this article, we’ll talk about Cognitivism and its application to eLearning design. Understanding The Learning Theory Of Cognitive Development The learning theory of cognitive development is a theory in psychology, advanced by Jean Piaget, a Swiss developmental … [Read more...] about The Learning Theory Of Cognitive Development In ELearning

5 Suggestions on Creating Educational Simulations Quickly and Effectively

Laptop with ones and zeros

There are many ways to create educational simulations that are both engaging and result-oriented. However, developing these simulations can be very expensive and resource consuming. Therefore, instructional designers should strategically analyze all goals and objectives prior to getting involved in the design process. Here are five suggestions on how you can create educational simulations quickly and effectively.   Introductions Matter: Rather than separate the introduction and the main body of the simulation, effective simulation models integrate them into the core content, allowing students to quickly delve into the intros, and then, get to the substance of the game. By doing so, instructional designers familiarize their students with the look-and-feel, and overall mechanics (background, themes, navigation, feedback/messaging) of the simulation early on, thereby shortening the learning curve. Pay Attention to Learning Objectives and Outcomes: When designers … [Read more...] about 5 Suggestions on Creating Educational Simulations Quickly and Effectively

How to Effectively Use Video in ELearning

by Marina Leave a Comment

Instructional Designers always look for ways to make their courses fun and engaging. Adding video is the best way to involve learners in their learning process. Video is a great way to teach behavioral skills, demonstrate techniques, and provide excellent performance support. When creating instructional videos, it is important to look at them as if they were commercials. As we all know, the main goal of any commercial is to catch people’s attention quickly. However, it is equally important to keep one’s attention on the desired subject. Commercials usually reach that goal in less than 3 minutes by appealing to people’s emotions. Including short, thought-provoking chunks of information in your videos is much more memorable than creating long videos and covering all the material at once. In fact, it is best not to use video throughout the entire course as it may overwhelm your learners. Instead, include it at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of the course. A short introductory … [Read more...] about How to Effectively Use Video in ELearning

Designing Games For ELearning: The World Of Gamification And Virtual Reality

eLearning games and gamification

In this modern time driven by technology, instructional designers and eLearning professionals have constantly explored virtual worlds as an effective medium for education. Since virtual worlds provide synched interactions between individuals and the environment, they are considered a powerful eLearning tool. Furthermore, users can easily customize virtual worlds to make them even more effective for online education. People play games because they are fun and engaging. Games take players to an imaginary world where they take challenges or win over opponents. Instead of just viewing games as an effective way to pass time, they can be viewed as learning events. In a game, learners can achieve high scores by taking on challenges, they are able to take different roles, as well as experiment and see the results. Gamers are also able to express feelings reflecting on certain situations.  Training professionals often offer games to introduce a new learning topic to raise the learners’ … [Read more...] about Designing Games For ELearning: The World Of Gamification And Virtual Reality
